Here a few simple tips to help you as you furniture shop:
When shopping for upholstery, choose a piece based on comfort and function first. The fabric should be a secondary consideration. Upholstered furniture should have the ability to be ordered in different fabrics and colors.
Don't fall for 50% off sales. Stores that use these types of advertising tactics are taking advantage of the consumer. The 50% off is merely a discount on a super-inflated regular price and is usually higher than the average sale price.
Look for sofas, chairs and recliners that have a lifetime warranty on the frame and mechanism. Cushions should come with at least a 10-year warranty.
When shopping for a mattress, look for a quality brand name that stands behind its warranties and offers a variety of comfort choices. Ask the sales person about the difference between a full warranty and prorated warranty.
